Re: First Week w/ 6D....from 5D Mk II

Banding is a low frequency noise. It's not directly related to DR, even if noise is the limiting factor of DR in the shadows (there is absolutely no banding with the Nikon D800, D600, D7000 ...)

Banding is terrible for the eye, much more than the grainy look of a a random noise pattern. So avoiding the banding noise, is an improvement, even if in this area, Sony"s sensor are much better.

You will also notice while looking at DXO numbers, that at

- high ISO the difference of DR between the 5Dmk2 and the 6 D increase. At 25000 iso there is one stop difference of DR, especially if you consider that the real ISO (the 5dmk2 lies more). Add a better SNR and you will have a real advantage for the 6D.

In short compared to the 5dmk2 the 6D brings at high iso :

- more dynamic range

- less noise

- less banding

- more realistic ISO

Add a better AF at the center, and you will get the picture.
