I don't use the UW snapshot mode on TG-1, so I don't know for sure.

In general, "AF lock" means you're telling the AF mechanism to lock the current focus position - whatever it is currently focused on - and hold it, even as you point the camera in a different direction. Usially, it's done by half-pressing the shutter button - which locks both AF and exposure.

Sometimes, it's convenient to point your camera at the subject, lock focus, then point it at a properly lit area, lock exposure, then recompose, and finally, shoot. But it's a careful, deliberate style of shooting, rarely employed with small-sensor cameras.
