My wife and I see the same thing. The results from the 12 mm are simply more appealing.

The remaining question is if its worth the price and the risk of damaging it, ....   but thats life.  And climbing = risk management.

The price question is probably easier to answer after the announcement of the expected quality zooms.  These will be more expensive, and bulky, without any doubt - but maybe cause a pricedrop for the primes.
