I don't know that .  Where do you find this info? closing down past F2.8 is done by ND filter and won't get into diffraction?

That would be nice as I don't need to use A mode at F2-2.8 to avoid diffraction

Even auto choose F8 is OK if what you said is correct.  Actually after reading TG-2 manual I don't find any mention of ND filter
