I can't get it out of my mind...
I admit that the EX1 was ways beyond it's competitors as it came out. If you compare the resolution charts, you see that it outperforms Panasonic DMC LX5, also Canon s90, s95.
But now, i can't see any differences between the resolutions of EX1, DMC-LX7, fuji x10 and even Canon D450... maybe my eyes can't resolve the resolution puzzle. for me they are all "good"
So what is the next camera to buy ?
1) i must take it with me without thinking of it as a burden,
2) Also i'm not convinced about the swivel screen how ever nice it is.
3) Fuji x10 doesn't offer much better IQ, even if design is appealing.
So i may consider DMC LX 7 or Canon S100, or wait for what's coming out. A short zoom is also a real drawback i noticed. Or EX2...
Charts don't tell the entire picture. Look at features, how the camera feels in your hands, how it works for you, and go based off of that.
I am reviewing a sample copy of the Fuji X20, and it is an extremely nice camera. However, it isn't small. It is not going to fit in a pocket, it doesn't have an articulating screen, but what it offers is great controls, nice grip, beautiful build quality.
If you want a camera to slip in a pocket, get an Canon S90/95/100/etc, Sony RX100, etc. If you want something a little more flexible, than the LX3/5/7, Samsung EX2f, Pentax MX1, Fuji X10/20, etc.
So for 1, this differs a lot depending on your usage style. I am fine with small interchangeable lens option for this.
For 2, you are saying you don't care if it has a swivel screen or not?
For 3, I think most of these will have acceptable IQ.
Do you shoot RAW or JPEG? Also, do you use the hot-shoe or not? My point here is decide on what features you want and limit your selection accordingly.
FYI for a point and shoot camera, anything with a resolution over 6 MP (approx) is meaningless as the lenses don't resolve that well for the sensor. The larger the sensor, the higher this number goes.
