I think I know what you're on about now.  You are probably mistaking "zoom" with magnification.

No, the 50x zoom is not 50x magnification.  Once you zoom in to 1:1 (hmm dunno where that is exactly, maybe 15mm ?)  then 215/15 = 14x magnification.

Just for example.  No exact measurements here.
