A camera like the Canon G1x would be great too, if the AF was improved a little.

I agree with you - I have a G1X, which is quite a nice camera, but the AF and the camera operation (e.g. changing settings) is just tooooooooo sluggish.  As others pointed out here, a travel camera needs to be fast, or you are missing the best shots.  I decided on the G1X because I wanted to have an affordable underwater casing, without that I would go for a NEX 6, about the same size as the G1X (with the "pancake zoom"), but much faster, EVF and you can change the lens. No need for a fixed lens camera these days, unless you want tit really small (e.g. RX100).

I just spend a month in SE Asia (Thailand/Malaysia) and used it for wildlife (with a 1.8x

teleconverter), landscape, underwater and a little street photography - as said, good pics, but too

G1X - Manta Ray

G1X - Leopard shark

G1X- Water Buffalo

G1X - Mosque & old Kampung House

G1X - Chao Kit Market KL
