Makes sense to move from D7000 to D700?

Re: No

With the budget you cite, I'd say no, it doesn't make sense to sell what you have to go for the D700. All you'd have left is the 70-300VR and what FF lens will you buy? It seems you've done your research on the differences, but I don't see a reason to switch based on what you posted plus a limited budget.

The current have 3 lenses:

  • Nikon 18-105mm, which I'll sell with the Nikon D7000
  • Nikon 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6 G VR, which is full frame compatible
  • Nikon 35mm f/1.8, which should be pretty easy to sell

So, I'm not really heavily invested in DX lenses.

I'm just a hobbyist photographer, so don't really have much use for the D800/800E. In any case, I don't believe my skills are at the level where I'll be able to fully utilize the abilities of a camera like D800, or justify spending that amount of money.

I think I should be able to sell off my D7000 + 18-105 lens around the $900-1000 mark.

For the new purchase, I can go max. upto ~$1200. I don't think be able to get a used D600 at this price, hence I'm considering a used D700.
