Hi All,

I am looking to upgrade from my E-520 for something smaller and with better overall IQ. The 'take anywhere' concept appeals to me. Right now my budget is somewhat constrained so I am not contemplating the EM-5 (lovely machine as that may be). The images from the Fuji X100s look nice, and the form factor is great, but of course one gives up the flexibility of being able to change lenses. So an alternative would be the EPL-5 with just a single (prime?) lens for now: excellent overall image quality, smallish form factor, with the future possibility to buy more lenses.

So, does this concept make sense to you, and if so, which lens would you pick?

Dorus, just a bit confused by your budget constraint. You are talking about the Fuji X100S which is $1300 but eliminating the OM-D. You could get the OM-D body only and the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 prime for just $50 more (and the body has had recent discounts of $50 off making the package the same price). But as Guy notes, the EPL5 is an excellent choice as well. But you can get the OM-D with a prime for about the same price.

Yes, thank you for pointing out this disconnect - I don't think I fully realized the price of the X100s, and my budget remark was more intended as "if i can get the same overall picture quality with the EPL-5 and with the EM-5 then I don't think I want to spend my limited $$$ on the extra bells and whistles that the EM-5 provides". A similar comparator is just not available for the X100s, unless you would consider the X100 (which is also not inexpensive)..
