What is your sharpening set at with your D7100?   I just wonder:  since it lacks the aa filter, the same level of sharpening as the D90 may produce different results.  I would guess that less sharpening in camera and in post processing may be necessary for such a sensor free of added blur.  Noise likes sharpening as much as it likes cropping so less sharpening may be a possible in camera solution.  You don't have to force what is already there.
