I thought this was about the Alpha 99. Not the A99. I am ashamed and will shut up for awhile

Yes, the translucent mirror won't help too much I htink with the A99. The Samsung could indeed be better. Sorry for my rather BIG mistake.

A in A99 stands for Alpha.  You thinking A900 or A850 or something?

Transluscent mirror redirects 30% of the light to the focus sensors according to Sony, which is a half a stop of light.  If it redirected 50% (half) the light to the sensors that would be a full stop).

So the "full frame advantage" is about 1 1/3 stops (something like 1.2 stops) and so the A99 should still perform better than the NX300 in theory.  The extra 2/3 stops could be from mismatch in what manufacturers call ISO xxx (like why OM-D looks good in some tests that aren't well controlled), etc.

The A99 also has more pixels so will have slightly more crop effect at the same pixel level.  Should resize both to same output, but 20 to 24 MP is not that different.
