Hello all. I am a wedding shooter (mainly) and currently own the nikon 80-200 2.8D Push Pull Lens. This lens gets rarely used. The main reason is the lack of VR and the fact that it has to be on a tripod most of the time (my hands are not steady enough).

The 85 1.8D on my d7000 has been my go to combo for reach when I can get away without using the 80-200. I also recently got the d600 and it is clean all the way to iso 6400 but most my low light shots are around the 3200-4000 range.

I want to replace the 80-200 and was thinking of either a:

Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR II $2099

Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC (will be out on the 28th) $1499

New Nikon 70-200 F4 VR $1400

I know the tamron (canon version) has had rave reviews and rated very very high on dxomarks so I was thinking to get that when it comes out in about a week but dont want to regret not going with the nikon later. We are talking a $600 price difference. Some have also been pushing the f4 since the image quality is that of the 70-200 2.8 nikon and is easier to carry and the 1 stop may not mean much since the d600 can easily be pushed in iso and the new VR system is supposed to be great. Also DOF at F2.8 vs F4 may not mean much for my work most of the time. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

My decision was somewhat easier between the three 70-200mm lenses that you presented, I always prefer Nikon pro fast glass over 3rd pty fast glass because of the color, rendition and contrast. So the choice of f2.8 vs F4.0, I always prefer the faster glass so I decided on the Nikon AFS 70-200mm f2.8 VRII. It took me almost a year as I waited for another pro DSLR that never arrived, the D600 although a good entry FX body wasn't exactly what I was looking for so I came up with my 2 final choices.

Buy a new D800 for $3000 or Buy a used D700 + Nikon AFS 70-200mm f2.8 VRII for $3000

I now have a used D700, the Nikon AFS 70-200mm f2.8 VRII is $2099 on sale at my local camera store this week.
