no, they just do not want to ask somebody a permission do add new features... remember when Panasonic added info for software optics correction in their .RW2 files and how much time it took Adobe to update DNG standard... so was Panasonic supposed to wait ? or was Panasonic supposed to disclose that to competition ahead of time ?

My Nikon D3 has native 14-bit RAW. Converting to DNG reduces it to 12 bits. I use NEF for my conversions, then archive the original files in DNG as well as saving the NEFs.
