To zoom or not is an artistic choice

Very good, but this is a matter of artistic choice, not a function of the place. Long zoom is a useful option for capturing more intimate views of details, both architectural and otherwise. It all depends on how you choose to take advantage of the scene that presents itself to you. Is there such a thing as a long-zoom city and a short-zoom city? I doubt it.

Of course, there are special situations that call particularly for long zoom. Birds come to mind, and many sports. But that's another matter. I suppose one does not go to Prague to shoot woodpeckers or ice hockey.
