Hello, I am in the process of creating a book that about street artists. Because of the ephemeral nature of the work, we are relying on the artists to send pictures of their art. (the backstory)
I was told by our editor that for printing purposes the photos need to be 300dpi. But many of the photographs the artists are sending are at 72 dpi. I am trying to figure out if they can be used in our book because they appear not to have a high enough resolution. I have done a little research but an still slightly confused. This is the method I am trying to use:
Picture One: 72 dpi, 2048 (width in pixels) 1236 (height in pixels)
printed at 300dpi it would be resized as 6.83" x5.12"
(my math: 2048/300=6.83 inches wide; 1236/300=5.12 inches tall)
Is this true?
I am the project coordinator and do not have experience with photography, but am the side of the team organizing the photo contributions...I appreciate your help in advance!
