considering that it's lighter than the t3 but has a touch screen, bigger pics (and hopefully better quality), an input for external mic and other advanced features, seems to me that the SL1 delivers very nicely.

Agree it is an upgrade to the t3, just trying to keep the size buzz in perspective.

You are doing a lot, but not "trying to keep the size buzz in perspective.

The difference in size between the XS/1000D you keep bringing up is 10% in height and 11% in width. That is a LOT.

The difference between a 60D and a 650D/T4i is quite a bit less. The difference between a 6D and a 5D mkIII is quite a bit less.

Exactly.  Which is why switching from a 60D to a T4i to save space would be just as ridiculous.   People don't go on an on about how tiny the T4i is.

THAT is keeping the size difference in perspective: the SL1/100D is the smallest DSLR by quite some margin. It is even smaller than the E-4X0 series from Olympus.

Okay, lets use pictures.

Even with a small prime (24mm f2.8) vs the T3 there is zero real-world advantage. Is the one on the left going to fit in your pocket or even a smaller camera bag? No.
