I'm not sure whether it's because it's easier to teach or because the consumers want that instant gratification.

Personally, I think it's because most of the "teachers" are ignorant themselves, and just recite what they've been taught about film.  But, for sure, the consumers want that instant gratification.

One person in these forums once said:

If it can't be explained in a sentence or two, it can't be that important.

I'm not kidding.

I can see a market-based reason for suggesting that exposure be taught a certain way, but that doesn't make it inherently better.

Not only does it not "make it inherently better", but...
