Well deserved skepticism, it seems.  As I've used the lens, specifically once I started using the manual focus ring, the squeaking has somewhatreturned.  

It's not nearly as bad, mostly only happening when focusing moves through the entire range (close-up to infinity), and then it's only a quick squeak instead of a long, annoying screech.

In any case, I'm going to keep "exercising" the focus to see if it returns to the level I took it in with.  Considering I paid a good amount in labor and the problem may not be fixed, I need to figure it out while I still have some sort of warranty on the repair.

It's a bummer because I don't think I want to spend over $500 to get the motor replaced.
