thank you for responding,  I'm searching for another lens choice as well.  I have the 70-200 vr 2.8 which is great, but its heavy and I'm busy at horse shows.  I have the 55-200 afs vr which is light and easy to carry , but I always have in my mind that I'm giving up some quality .  Maybe yes and maybe no, Im not sure really.  I think when photos are not sharp its probably my fault not the lens I'm using .

I am considering the new Nikon 70-200 f4   not sure if it makes sense .  I want a quality light weight zoom .  I use a D7000.  Also I often pan with af-c and a single focal point.  I am at WEF now and have spoken to several pros here and they don't pan , they use a mono pod and use focal lock after focusing on the jump/rail .
