No, you read that wrong. Mirrorless has nothing to do with the size of lenses. Size of lenses is largely tied to the size of the image sensor or film used. NEX cameras are small, but use aps-c lenses for instance because NEX image sensor is aps-c. A 35mm mirrorless camera would still need large 35mm lenses.

Pssst... don't ruin their illusion. A lot of these people here need to define it this particular way in order to justify their equipment choices. If it was as coherent as simply shedding the legacy of film (AKA mooting the internal space, lens telecentricity, and mechanical complexity requirements of the OVF-based reflex mirror camera), then they'd be left trying to justify the 'superiority' of smaller sensors and light gathering surfaces.
