It does look like Canon is not currently addressing the space that is occupied by both Nikon and Sony...in mid-level crop slrs...at this time. The 2 little bodies...the super compact and the slightly changed T5...are not mid level...nothing to compete with the D7100 for example. And never mind Sony. They're not standing still either.

No need to be a fanboy of any brand. No need to defend them. They are very rich as is. So ...lets just be objective.

Hence...if this persists...Nikon may well be on a roll...with the 71 out now. Back about 6 yrs...when Canon did the 30D...Nikon got ahead...until the 7D of Canon. But overall, its a ? ...guess it may be a matter of perspective or of silent , or not so silent, cheering for a brand.

I do wish Canon would step up to the plate with an offering similiar to the 71 that is getting quite a bit of favourable attention. Competition...is good for consumers.

Why would Canon need to introduce a camera to answer the D7100?

The Canon 7D has as good or better auto focus system.

The 7D has a 24 frame RAW buffer, compared to 7 frame RAW buffer for the D7100 (12 frame for the crop crop).

The 7D shoots at 8 fps the D7100 shoots at 6 fps (7 fps for the crop crop).

The 7D has as good or better high ISO noise (assuming the D7100 has the same sensor as the D5200).

Canon 7D vs Nikon D5200 ISO 6400

The 7D body only sells for $1250, the D7100 body only sells for $1200.

So, all you gain with the D7100 you gain 1 stop of DR (again assuming the D5200 sensor), but, you sacrifice fps and RAW buffer.

So again, why would Canon need to introduce a camera to answer the D7100?
