TL500/EX1 Overheating Problem?

All,

I am having a problem with my TL500 that I think might be from overheating. I just wanted to get some other opinions.

I am a history graduate student conducting research. I purchased this camera so that I can take pictures of the documents that I will need for my dissertation. LOTS of pictures. LOTS (I have about 30 GB of picts right now and this will most likely double or triple)! I am using the "text" mode under the SCN option on the dial to take my picts. I notice that when the camera heats up the menu will change from SCN to "Movie" mode even though I have not touched the dial. It will then switch itself back to SCN and I will then have to hit the "OK" button to select the TEXT mode again. This does not seem to happen when I use the "Smart" mode. This is annoying enough but what started happening yesterday was that I could not zoom into previews of the pictures that I had taken. what it seems to be doing is when I use that button that zooms into the pict on screen instead of zooming it moves to the next pict or when I hit the button the picture in the screen takes on a magenta hue. That said, today it is fine again (as in I can now zoom into the previews on the camera of the pictures that I took yesterday). But I suspect that as the camera heats up I will continue to have this problem.

I am wondering what might be a solution here? I THINK that much of the heat is coming from the battery. If that is the case should I just purchase multiple batteries (though in typing this I remember that even when I swap one battery out for another one (that has been charging) the problem seems to persist)? Is it a problem with the camera? Should I just get a new one? If I get a new camera will this happen to other cameras that I purchase as cameras like this are not made for continuous shooting and the workload I am putting it under? What to do? I don't have much money but this is an ESSENTIAL tool for me. I just need this thing to last until this research trip is done.
