I want to go on record that I "predicted" this tin-foil-hat theory a long time ago.    No proof of course, but given the cliff that Nikon backed themselves against I highly suspect it to happen.  If Nikon thinks they're getting backlash over the D600 now, just wait for the uproar when they discontinue it in favor of a redesign.  Recent testimonials of shutter replacements look encouraging, but you never know for sure.  Maybe the new shutters are under lubed and are destined to a short lifespan.
