I expect the D7100 at 6400 looks like the D300s at 3200 or the D7100 3200 looks like the D300s at 1600. People can argue over it, but is that improvement really important to you? I would stay with the better focus lock and potential 8fps of the D300s unless I needed 6400 iso.

You expect that based on what? I can tell you as someone who upgraded from the D300s, that the improvement is at least two stops. 3200 on the 7100 looks like the D300s at 800. Maybe even better than that. And the higher resolution and pixel count also brings something to the game, does it not?

It would be very cool if you could provide some high ISO, low light samples from both cameras.

I can appreciate your being excited about your new camera. It looks to have the makings of being killer, but I have some doubt that it's at least 2 stops better than the d300. Two stops would mean that the d7100 is at the physical limits of what is possible for DX, which is about half a stop better than the d700, with twice the pixel density.

That would be amazing indeed.
