Are your subjects in motion or posed when they're getting their picture taken?  If you'll need to keep the shutter speed up indoors you'll probably want the fastest lens in your budget range.  I was going to recommend the 40mm pancake but it might be a little too slow for your purposes.  I don't have the Pentax one but the Canon version is very very sharp and my least expensive lens.
