Is this the Orion Nebula?
1

I figure someone on this forum will know.  i was up in Alaska last week, north of the Arctic Circle, and while waiting for the aurora to appear I pointed my lens towards what I think is Orion and took a few shots.  I captured a reddish glow with some of my long exposures.  It was pulsing -- sometimes it was there, sometimes it wasn't, and it's brightness was changing over time.  Wondering if this is, in fact, M42, or something else.  Ideas?

Canon 5D Mark III, Zeiss 15mm f/2.8, 30 seconds, f/3.2.
