Epson PhotoPC 800 review
Very compact camera, offers excellent image quality with and without flash for digicam. Color and resolution are impressive. Performance/Price ratio is outstanding. Easy to use, but also easily controlled resolution, ISO speed, exposure compensation, shutter speed, aperture, infinity focus, white balance, spot meter, self-timer, etc. Good build quality - nice fit, finish, and feel. USB cable provides very fast downloads. NiMH batteries and charger supplied. Digital equivalent to Yashica T4 or Olympus Stylus Epic 35mm cameras, with faster lens and more user controls. Included Sierra software makes excellent stitched panoramas easy, even when hand-holding the camera. (much easier than other stitch programs tried).
Instructions inadequate - after connecting USB cable for download to PC, not only must the main camera switch be on to "shoot with LCD on", but LENS COVER MUST BE OPEN. Optional AC adapter highly desirable, or else buy USB CF card reader. Lens suffers from flare/ghosting in severe backlighting. Takes two batteries - use LCD sparingly and carry spare batteries. Frequent/recent charging boosts battery performance significantly. Poor response to technical questions - Epson sent a "We'll check on it" reply, but no real answer after 60 days.
