Canon PowerShot S400 (Digital IXUS 400) review

I picked this up at Gateway for $400 (with a $50 discount applied). I got this camera to replace a Canon S40. I own a D100 and was looking for a compact camera to "Take Everywhere". The S40 has some focus issues, and is too big for what I needed. So far I am happy with my decision. The images are nice, with good exposure and color. The lens is a little soft, but considering the size and 3x zoom range, it does a good job. The LCD is one of the brightest I have seen on any digital camera. Did I mention the size? It really is a great little camera.

- Zoom ring, mode dial, and play/record switch do not match the otherwise excellent quality of this camera

- Needs to have Shutter and Aperture priority modes.

- Battery life is just ok. Get a second battery!

- Purple fringing is evident in high contrast shots
