Canon EOS 300D (EOS Digital Rebel / EOS Kiss Digital) review

Great DSLR!. You would be hard pressed to find a better buy than
the DR with kit lens. Even though the kit lens is a little soft, it
does a good job at 18mm. At 55mm, the 50mm f1.8 is a must
have (especially since you can get one for under $70). The
plastic body does not feel as solid as the old die cast metal film
SLRs of years ago (like my Canon F1N), but from what others have
said, it is very rugged (many have dropped theirs with no ill
effects). The feature set is down from the 10D, but even so, you
can find work arounds (study the manual, and take pictures). The
image quality exceeds the ability of the kit lens (even my 24-135
f2.8 Sigma is sharper), but post processing helps on some soft
images. The included Elements 2 is a nice touch, and the s/w
works on a MAC (unlike many other digital camera included
software). Definitely worth the price!

Problems:

Availability seems to be the biggest issue. Although I bought mine
on day one (The Best Buy weekend), they are still in short supply,
and many have not found them locally. Oh, Canon does not
supply a lens hood on their non-L series line of lenses - you will
need to buy this seperately - why Canon? - Sigma and others
include the hoods with their consumer lenses.
