I wish there had been a Rating Category of 6.0 (or higher) under "Value For
Money." At the current pricing of less than $800 with lenses (maybe you can
even find it for less in some places, there is simply nothing else that can touch
it. In terms of capabilities, it was a value at over $1,000!
I've owned my SD-9 for about 6 months now. I've been shooting pictures for
over 30 years. The SD-9 is, in a word, an exceptional camera and the best I
have ever owned. The proof is in the pictures, which are nothing less than
remarkable most of the time. The camera is very easy to use, very easy to carry
around (well-balanced weight distribution helps a lot) and has enough
features and functionalities to suit the majority of situations.
It's easy to nitpick this camera, and many do. But whatever the faults, lacks
and issues, once you've used this camera for a time, nothing really presents
itself as a "problem" anymore. You learn what it can do and what it can't. You
learn which lenses, shooting speeds and apertures are appropriate for which
situations and how to use the PhotoPro image software to best advantage.
The learning curve is rather quick.
So now, after six months and at least 1,000 pictures, I can say that the only
other camera I'm considering at the present time is an SD-10, which does
features some nice improvements over the SD-9. But I would not sell my SD-9
in favor of the 10. I would keep both. And if Sigma comes out with a higher
resolution version of the SD, I will definitely consider it.
Don't let any retailer who doesn't carry Sigma badmouth this camera to you
and hard-sell you into a Nikon D70, Canon EOS 300 Rebel or other. They are
good cameras. There's no question of that. But the Sigma SD-9, in the end,
delivers the superior photography at less cost.
Problems:
None.
