For those people that ordered a V1 through Dell (or any camera for that matter), what are the warranty options available since Dell itself doesn't offer an extended warranty plan?

-Thanks

If you buy any Sony Camera, you can call Sony Direct Sales at 1-800-378-4590 and purchase an extended service plan. I have done this with several of the Sony items I have and it works great; covers all parts and labor. You can buy up to 3 years extension I believe.

Hope that helps.

--This sounds interesting any idea of the cost? What I like about Dell is I asked Melissa about their return policy and they have a 30 day. This should give a person enough time to see if it is the camera for you.

--$280 plus tax for us lucky people in WA. That is for a 3 year warrany that is added to your one year factory warrenty for a total of 4 years. I should have asked but the factory warrenty only has a 90 day labor so I guess you would not have labor warreny for 9 months until the extended kicks in.
I am not sure that is how Sony works but Staples does it this way.

When I purchased mine for the S75, I bought an additional 3 years for $165.00 directly form Sony. I also purchased this for my computer and that cost me $125.00 for an additonal 2 years.

By the way....anxious to see your results with the V1. I think I am ready for an upgrade from my S75. Like the smaller size of the V1.

Hope that helps.

--I don't know how much your camera cost but I am sure it the cost of the camera will have something to do with the cost of the insurance. She said for the V-1 it is $280 plus tax. I will double check this.

When I bought the S75 camera (in 2001) the week it came out, it was $699.00. Oddly enought I just pulled out the invoice (bit of a pack-rat here) and it is exactly two years ago this week.

Are you getting the price from Sony or from Staples? That may be the difference. Like I said my cost for 3 years on the S75 was $165.00 directly from Sony.

--I called the 800 number again and asked what the extended warrenty would cost ofr the DSC V1 and again they said $274 plus tax. I asked him why it would cost more here in Wash. than in other states. He said it doesn't then I mentioned you people here in the forum form other states getting it for less. The he mentioned camcorder and I had to tell him it is a digital still and he then said it will be $129 for three years, can you believe that? to me that is a great investment and I will get it when the camera arrives.
Thanks to all

It is well worth the money. Although I have never had to use it with my camera, I did use it once for a portable minidisc and they paid for everything including the shipping since I live in NYC and took it to the Sony Style Store.

Please let me know what you think about the V1...I really think I am gonna upgrade to it.

--I don't think you will have to wait long to find out how the V-1 works it will be a hot topic here in the forum. I will be getting the ins mainly because I have heard Sony charges $179 just to look at the camera.
