Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 review

I was eager to own this camera after being very happy with two earlier Minoltas, Xi and Xt. Eight MP and image stabilizer suit my style, the non-extending lens is desirable, and the size is perfect. I was so certain it would be good that I ordered an extra battery and a one gig SD card. Too bad. They all went back. MAIN shortcoming: I couldn't get a picture that looked sharp out of it. With or without tripod, stabilizer, bright, dark, flash, they all seemed to be blurred one way or another. SECOND: (appropriate term) way too much lag from button-push to clidk, both initially and between pictures. The little red light flashed too soon and too often. It even flashed for several seconds after turning off the camera. No quick card or battery changes with this little item. I was using the included-as-a-bonus-from-Costco 128MB card, which may have been too slow for the camera, but shouldn't affect shutter-lag. OTHERWISE: the navigation system is very quick and easy, buttons and functions falling readily to thumb. Nice dark-but-too-shiny finish. I was afraid the rounded corners would make it slippery, but it didn't try to escape while I used it. If someone will ring me up when they cure the sharpness and time problems, I'll be back in line very quickly.
