Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 review

This cam is excellent value for money. It offers so much creative control for those on a limited budget. It's a camera you can really have fun with. Works fine as a beginner point and shoot. If you're a beginner it's an excellent buy because you gradually work up to the more advanced features. For those looking at the slr-like features, an excellent price. I like the controls. I've yet to try it out on my lively little nieces and nephews, for family happy snaps, but i'm looking forward to trying out its progressive shooting and constant focus mode to capture those precious moments.

I haven't seen too many problems with chromatic aberration. just a purple and green fringe here and there, and a single pixel of purple or green aint gunna figure much, guys. not in a print or reduced size view for the internet.

i've got my knickers in a knot over the pixel by pixel detail, encouraged by the some of the nit pickery you find on-line but the 10*8 prints i've printed are gorgeous. but i do tweak in photoshop, contrast and unsharp mask for example.

if you don't want to tweak a little, you might consider something else. canon, panasonic, have better camera processing algorithms.

well, i've used it much more now and i must say i like the controls. i can control the camera settings without looking. i find i use the electronic viewfinder much more than the lcd screen outdoors, so it's important to be able to make quick adjustments to the basic camera settings without looking.

the image stabilisation is excellent and the ergonomics of the camera, the balance and weight, make it very easy to take shots at very slow shutter speeds. saves having to fuss about with a tripod.

for outdoors photos tend to overexpose, so it's good to shoot program or semi auto with -.7 exposure compensation or so.

some people don't realise that on default settings in program and semi, focus and exposure don't lock with half depress of shutter button. this can catch you out at first if you're used to these locking.

some peeps have commented on lack of range automatic scene modes. well, these are quite useless anyways.

Problems:

Noise reduction too aggressive. looses some fine detail. i'd really like a setting where i could turn noise reduction off.

Colour tends to be more subtle than other digital cameras but as i post process most images, i don't worry about that much. In fact, i turn the the colour way down anyway. Nothing worse than colour that's completely blown out. Sharpening and saturation and contrast... you can put it in but you can't take it out...

i wish it had a better range of shutter speeds. 1/1000 is not fast enough for some bright outdoors high key subjects. 4 seconds is not slow enough for good night photos.

Can't have tripod mount permanently attached because it covers the memory card access.

would be nice to have raw option.
