Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D (Dynax 5D) review
i bought the 18-70 kit two months ago , but only receive my first propaper prints yesterday.
i am already a minolta user, 7000i, 28/2.8, 50/1.4, 85/1.4
iso/white balance direct access is very useful
although its tiny size, ergonomy is well conceived
important functions(metering mode, focus mode,...)not having a direct control allocated are reached through a function button.
its iso range is 100-3200(with special 80 and 200) which is wider than nikon& pentax same sensor dslr.
image are very good(always shot raw then convert with bibble) when shoot with a good lens(an 50/1.4 or better my 85 G) on the other end the kit lens is not that great when you enlarge, but its the cheaper way the get wide angle without going sigma. of course there is the 17-35/3.5 zoom but it's too expensive for the casual wide angle shooter.
image doesnt seem to suffer the alisasing problem as nikon D70.
it offers shutter-lockup.
-antishake is an effective solution if you often shoot in poor light condition (iso higher than 400 are noisy)
-middle class quality lens family is quite poor compared to other manufacturers...but the G serie lens offer all what you need if you can afford it.
Problems:
-battery doesnt last that long (insanely expensive bought alternative manufacturer battery)
-the lack of a second low-energy screen (like slr or other dslr camera) force me to look through the LCD when i need to know the current setting (which is annoying and energy-angry). the D7 is Ok without it because everything can be check trough direct control on the body.
-the LCD cannot be proctected.
-the official raw converter software is crappy and doesnt give you full control on the white balance setting. bought instead bibblelite(which actually works great on my linux/debian laptop) and has and effective way to work around the highlight dslr concern.
-auto White balance works well in natural light as long as green/magenta is not concerned. Under artificial light you will want to use the preset settings and eventually fine-tune it when raw converting.
-the kit lens looks cheap when compared to my 50/1.4 prime...and I dont even mention my 85/1.4...
-high quality (G serie) wide angle prime lens arent available yet.
