Ricoh GR Digital review

The Ricoh GR-Digital is quite an unique digicam. The combination of compactness, dSLR-liked controls and fixed focal length makes it one of a kind in the market.

I have came across many negative opinions about GRD judging by its specifications (sensor size, lag time etc...) , not by first hand experience. Don't bother about those. Specifications do not mean everything. Try compare Leica M7 with any Nikon/Canon SLR by their specifications and you will see.

1. Excellent image quality
2. No visible lens distorsion, improved from film GR1v
3. Aperture priority
4. High ISO
5. Close focus at about 1.5cm (measured from lens not sensor)
6. No noticeable shutter lag
7. Comfortable rubber grip
8. Well placed controls
9. Pocket size
10. Black splattered finish

1. Inconsistent flash (too often under powered)
2. Short battery life
3. Insufficient depth of field for macro
4. Noisy lens movement, noisier at macro mode
5. Pricey accessories
6. Dusts may get inside the camera eventually and there is no way to have the sensor cleaned.

1. LCD flickers when the lens is moving.
2. A JPEG file duplicates itself on one occassion. There were several other images between the original JPEG and the duplicated JPEG.
