Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 review

I've owned several compact digital cameras, and this is hands down the finest
I've ever used. The options offered are really excellent for a compact camera,
most of all the option for complete manual control, as well as apeture/shutter
priority modes. The ease of switching aspect ratios as well as AF to MF is great
because, as others have noted, without needing to access menus to make
these changes means you actually take advantage of such features. Finally, the
16:9 aspect ratio is really cool, offering not only true wide angle but also an
enjoyable format to work in.

I do recognize that noise is a potential issue; however, I see this as more of a
camera for pros or advanced amateurs who may be better able to work around
that by using RAW files and Photoshop, which virtually eliminate the issue
(though I haven't had trouble even with JPG's in good light). I've tried
posting a link to a few samples, but it won't show up. You can go to:

I'm not thrilled about the lens cap--I've never lost one, but it slows you down
just a bit when starting up (obviously, this only matters if you're trying to get a
fleeting moment). On the other hand, I like how the cap attaches around the
outside of the lens itself, instead of threads inside the lens housing--makes it
easier to snap on, and less likely to bump the glass.
