Sigma SD14 review

Top notch image quality, and isn't that what it's all about in the end? The AF system appear quick using my 50mm EX Macro - rarely has to hunt for focus, and when it does, it's because of me not choosing a subject with some contrast.

The camera ergonomically fits my medium sized hand just right...a huge improvment over the SD9's size and heft. The build feeds sturdy overall and just right as far as weight.

I am also pleased with having the option to remove the low-pass filter if I so choose to shoot IR...nice feature to have.

Problems:

The Foveon sensor does not do tungsten lighting well, due to the lack of blue light. But regarding the WB, you can use an 80A or 80B to balance color temp (remember film). Simply using RAW processing or a gray card to custom WB doesn't help as there isn't much in the blue channel to boost.

But, the IQ from the Foveon is worth having to bring along a filter.
