Fujifilm FinePix F31fd review
Had the F31 for 8-9 months now. After the initial honeymoon period of the first 3 months, put it down and went onto other cameras. Have now come back to it and wondered why I ever left -
Super start up times;
That sensor! Good daytime IQ with great dynamic range, and unbeatable low light IQ w usable ISO 1600;
A fine lens with no distortion and good edge to edge sharpness;
Useful face detection (can be skittish though);
Useful manual controls;
Amazing battery life.
Am sure other reviews have already mentioned all/more of the above, but I flatter myself with the thought that the more voices that are raised for Fuji (or another brand) to build a cam that truly inherits the F31 crown now that they've stopped making it, the more likely they will actually take heed and make one.
No image stabilisation means the cam is always pushing up the ISO;
ISO on auto also very trigger happy - any excuse it seems to go up a notch;
Walkabout videoing ruined by mechanical noise from within lens;
Slightly fiddly menu;
Can't believe they've discontinued it - no other compact they or anybody else has made since is as good in low light (though am waiting with anticipation the review for the f100fd to see if they've managed to make magic, albeit w 12m pixels on a 1/1.6" sensor...).
