Canon EOS 500D (EOS Kiss Digital X3 / EOS Rebel T1i) review
Is a bitter sweet camera.
On one hand the Rebel line has always been about good value and the T1i is another example that delivers in this department.
The total package Camera/Lens/Software is good and leaves a small room for Wanna-Be-Pros to get started in Photography.
My favorite feature is the Live View Focus Magnification and the Video recording. The Image Quality is OK, but I think is a step back from my Rebel XT.
The LCD is awesome.
Problems:
NOISE NOISE and MORE NOISE
Too noisy for a DSRL.
Its tiny pixels are Noisy even at base ISO. My previous Rebel XT was much CLEANER at base ISO.
Obviously is hard see the noise at final print size, but the damage at the image level has been done. Skin tones are the first casualty of this.
I'm totally convinced that 15MP is overkill, the Raw files are humongous big @ 20MB per shot and is extremely rare when you really get 15MP worth of resolution.
Some minor annoyances:
There is no way to store a group of frequently used custom settings.
The Custom WB process is too convoluted for frequent use.
There is no Aperture control for Video.
The 4 Way buttons functions change in Live view Mode which confuses me all the time.
To Engage in Video Mode you have to turn almost 360 degrees on the dial from Aperture Priority.
