Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 (Lumix DMC-FZ38) review

Primarily use Nikon DSLR's and wanted a replacement
for my carry-around TZ5...(that was a great camera
but couldn't get used to no viewfinder and problems in
bright light on the screen etc)

Amazed at the speed of the FZ38....almost no shutter
lag which I could not tolerate....scored heavily there
for me.

Image quality I think is excellent bearing in mind this is
NOT a DSLR and a bridge camera offering a range of
facilities and convenience I do not have on my DSLRs

I tested yesterday in good sunlight and was delighted
with IQ and the zoom....because camera is very light (a
bonus for carrying) you do have to be aware of being
steady when on 18X zoom....lean up against
something for support.

I found the OIS superb....really effective and surprised
at how low a shutter speed can be....excellent.

I am acutely aware that like other p&s or bridge
cameras, this will not perform like a DSLr in poor light
and appreciate under those circumstances it will be
sensible to use one of the Nikons....However, for what
you get, at such a good price is hard to beat.

Have not tried the hi-def video yet but if it is as good
as on the TZ5....I will not be disappointed....again,
bearing in mind it is NOT a HD camcorder, but a tool
which is embracing a wide range of facilities and tools in
one machine.

No doubt will be able to update review as I use the
camera more......

In the meantime....totally satisfied and excellent results
straight out of camera.

None, other than getting used to the enormous reach of
the lens.

I really wonder how well people manage 26X and 30X
