Ideal Walk-Around Lens

I bought into the Sony marque because of the renowned excellence of the Sony DSC-R1 with its inbuilt CZ16-80 lens. Then I moved on to the A700 and acquired the similar, though not identical lens.
I have owned the CZ16-80 for nearly 3 years and use it for 90% of my photography. It has an ideal range of focal lengths for a general purpose zoom and produces IQ across that range that is up with the very best of any make of APS-C zoom lens. Although screw-drive, the AF is very snappy, relatively silent and accurate. Images are sharp with good colour rendition and contrast. Build-quality is criticised by some but mine still behaves impeccably with no flat spots or looseness. The lens doesn’t come cheap but if you value performance, it’s worth every penny.
