Capable, just not without a lot of work.

When I got great shots (paired up with my 15-85 IS) the shots were stellar. The problem is it generally took between 2 and 4 shots to get that. I do not like Canon's implementation of the evaluative meter. It is not evaluative. It is a partial-spot meter if you use a single AF point. Also the meter locks when the shutter release button is pushed; this would not be so bad if the AF point wasn't metered on so heavily. I find that Center-weighted metering works much better and give a more balanced and better exposed shot.
Pros: Quick AF, Menu is logically laid out, Live View battery life seemed longer than listed.

Cons: Metering system, No continuous AF in video (obviously), 3.4fps is slowest in its class, DR was no better than my old Nikon D40.

Would not recommend this camera. For the same money as a rebel, I find the Sony's a better featured camera that takes great photos on the 1st shot, not the 2nd or 3rd like my (now sold) Canon.

Problems:

Part of the finger grip started pulling out from the body slightly.
