The G12 is a Camera worth owning
I has been 10 months now since I purchased my Canon G12, I am very impressed with its performance and build quality.
I took this Camera overseas to Europe for 5 weeks and took many hundreds of photos in various situations from gloomy internal shots inside Castles to in the snow in Austria.
Due to time restraints and the lack of a printed manual (It is available on the included CD) I mainly used the Camera on the auto setting.
The G12's ability to handle difficult shots automatically is incredible, one particular shot that comes to mind was at night with my wife was in the foreground and the Eiffel Tower in the background and the moon rising behind it... I only needed one shot as the photo came out perfect, good resolution of both foreground and the background and the moon looked fantastic behind the Tower.
This Cameras really delivers near perfect photos in all shooting situations.
If you are thinking of buying a simple point and shoot camera, then don't, just use this G12 on auto and I will guarantee that you will be amazed just how good this camera is. I can't wait to experiment with the various manual settings offered with this Camera.
Also battery life is fantastic.. love this Canon G12.
Problems:
(Minor problems) 1. There is some lack of protection for the lens front. When I was leaning forward to get off a boat in Venice the Camera suffered a knock on the (closed) lens front causing a scratch to the outer lens face, a thicker outer lens ring if fitted could also act as a bumper to aid in protecting the Camera.
2. Please Canon, supply a fully detailed and printed manual.
