Low Light Performer

I bought the 50/1.2 for use on my 7D at events (where flashes are frowned upon,) but I use it as often as possible now. It's my favorite lens.

There must be some manufacturing issues similar to the 24-70 (another lens I love,) because my copy is tack sharp, even at f1.2. It may be, as one reviewer said, the underestimation of just how thin the DOF at 1.2 really is, especially on a FF.

This lens has a solid look and feel that makes the other Canon 50s seem like toys. Its focus is silent, quick and spot on. The bg blur is unbelievable at 1.2, and the bokeh quality is unmatched by any lens I've seen, except the 85/1.2, and it focuses so much faster and quieter than the 85.

Buy this lens, you won't regret it, and you'll forget the high price within a month or 2: this lens has earned its cost in client satisfaction many times over in less than 6 months.

Problems:

Addictive bokeh.
