This is not true as many D800 owners are attesting for even older lenses and non-primes, non-gold teles. And doubly not true the way that consumers actually use the D800, by compressing images into much smaller jpegs.

Megapixels are not that interesting to me. High ISO is (or effective ISO when compressed). I would be much more concerned about this being a dark, variable aperture lens than its resolution ability on a D800 (although that is the cost of a light, low-cost lens, which are pluses in their own right).

Far more important is "how does it handle low-light and shake" than the MPs.
