As has oftern been said in this forum, great pictures happen in front of and behind the camera, not in it. More specifically, they depend on a fitness of camera, lens, and photographer to the situation.

If there were really a single scale of value to IQ, we'd all buy the same cameras. It's simply not true that at any price point, one camera is 'best' and all others are mistakes. You're ignoring things that matter.

I care more about the pictures than the controls, or anything else for that matter

Then give up the idea that you're going to save a couple of bucks putting a new NEX lens (that hasn't been reviewed to any real aclaim) on an older body not prepared to understand it. Fairly warned ye be, says I.
