Is VR a "must" for micro photography

Thanks in advance for yor advice.

I'm looking to get into micro photography. I have only about $500 to spend. I'm trying to decide between a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro; or a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP AF Di Macro.

For the same amount of $$$ for either of those two lenses I could pickup a used Nikon Micro-Nikkor 105mm 105 f/2.8 f2.8 Macro Lens AF on eBay. The used Nikon doesn't have any kind of vibration reduction.

I've heard that VR is not needed for macro/micro photography. I have a Nikon D7000, so the older Nikon lens shouldn't be an issue four autofocus or metering.

So I guess there's two questions. Which lens is better, the Tamron or Tokina. But would I be better served picking up an older, used Nikon Micro-Nikkor 105mm 105 f/2.8 f2.8 AF?

Thanks for your help.
