I just joined in the USA, at the suggestion of a canon rep at the service center. I told him that I though it said on their web page that you had to be a full time pro, and he said no.  I entered all my equip with serial numbers and I'm in. I'm sending a 580 EX II in for repair this week, so that I'll get some of my money back on the 30% repair discount for gold level. Turn around time should relieve some stress also
