70-400G (silver) is still the best as of today!

I have quite a few good lenses, but 70-400G is the most used lens for me hands down. On A99 it's a incredible landscape lens, as well as extremely useful birding lens. If one day my kid is into soccer or baseball something, this is the perfect lens for that too. Today I did some walkaround shooting with this lens only, for the most part I never felt limited. When I review all the photos in Aperture 3 I am re-confirmed why I like this lens so much: prime-like sharpness (even at 400mm maximum aperture), fast and quiet focus, great colour, excellent CA control, near-zero distortion, and relatively lightweight too! I serious doubt if there is any other long telephoto zoom lens can be possibly better than this one, even the new G II has same optical design so sharpness should be the same (except white paint and questionable faster AF speed).

Silver? No problem!

Very acceptable bokeh quality

resolution, colour and contrast!

great for close up shot too

After heavy crop still retain good details
