I would start with the best if I knew my needs. I don't want to spend $1,000+ and have it end up being overkill for my purposes, y'know? My second tripod will be my last, after I've had enough experience with my first one to understand what I need more of, less of, etc. I actually just placed the order. It came to $99 for legs and $190 for the head. Not so bad, so I won't feel too much of a loss when it's time to buy the real thing.
